Silver Orchid

In 2017 Gilda was recognized by MELOG (Latin American Women Entrepreneurs of Ottawa-Gatineau) as one of the 150 outstanding Latinos who have made a difference in Canada.

In 2013 she received the Latin American Achievement Award in Visual Arts from Mr. Jim Watson, Major of Ottawa, Canada.

In 2013 the Mexican government awarded Gilda the “Premio Ohtli” for her voluntary work and contributions to Canadian society and immigrant organizations.  She had donated more than 65 pieces of art and had helped in fund-raising events to help people, organizations and countries in need.

In 2011 she was recognized by Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa with the ‘‘Civic Appreciation Award’’ for her invaluable voluntary work to benefit others in the Latin and Canadian communities.

In 2005 she won the First prize in the International competition “Imagine Don Quixote” and she was awarded a trip to Spain to visit La Mancha.

Gilda was elected President of the Canadian Academy of Women Artists in 2003, a non-profit organization dedicated to promote art.

In the year 2000 she was selected to make a painting for the International Soccer Tournament held in Montreal.

In 1996 she was selected by the Children’s Aid Foundation as Curator for over 700 pieces of art for «Art Works for Kids».

In 1997 she was invited to supervise a group of young artists to paint a mural in Ottawa.

In 1996 the United Way and the Ottawa Carlenton Immigrant Services Organization choose one of her paintings for the publicity and invitations of a fundraising campaign entitled «Feast for the Eyes».
